The girl said that around 3:15 p.m. a man in a red pickup truck with a flatbed followed her, showed her some cash and asked her to get in the truck, the district said.

KILLEEN, Texas — A Gateway High School student reported on Wednesday that she was followed by a man in a pickup as she walked from a bus stop on Southern Belle Drive Tuesday afternoon, the district said.

The girl said that around 3:15 p.m. a man in a red pickup truck with a flatbed followed her, showed her some cash and asked her to get in the truck, the district said.

Killeen ISD said patrols were looking for the suspect.

The following recorded message was sent to Gateway parents:

“This is Chris Halpayne, principal of Gateway High School, calling with additional important information regarding student safety. A Gateway High School student has now reported to school administrators that she too was followed by a man in a vehicle; a different man and vehicle from the incident I informed you about this morning. In this new case, a student reported today that she was walking from the bus stop on Southern Belle Drive in Killeen yesterday at 3:15 p.m. and was followed by a black male driving a full-sized red pickup truck with a flatbed. The student said the man had a dark complexion but there is no other information available regarding the man’s appearance. The suspect reportedly flashed money to the student and told her he would give her a ride. The student was not injured. Killeen ISD Police will be on patrol in the area this afternoon.

“Again, please help us to keep students safe by asking children always to report to school officials or police immediately when there is any type of safety threat.”

A Gateway Middle School student reported that she was followed by a different man on Wednesday.
