Killeen Police investigating after KISD coach sent inappropriate messages to student

KISD spokesman Terry Abbott confirmed in an email the coach resigned in lieu of termination on Tuesday after a district investigation confirmed that he had "inappropriate electronic communications" with a 17-year-old junior.

Killeen — A coach at Killeen High School resigned after inappropriate communication with a student.

KISD spokesman Terry Abbott confirmed in an email James Crossland resigned in lieu of termination on Tuesday after a district investigation confirmed that he had "inappropriate electronic communications" with a 17-year-old junior.

The coach was placed on administrative leave and barred from the campus while the district and police searched his cell phone and school computer.

Killeen Police spokeswoman, Ofelia Miramontez, released a statement to Channel 6 Thursday that read, "In cooperation with the Killeen Independent School District, Detectives with the Killeen Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division are conducting an investigation into this matter."

According to Abbott, district officials confronted the coach Tuesday with the evidence at which time he resigned before he could be fired.

Killeen ISD said in a statement, "The safety of every student is Killeen ISD's number one priority every day. The district will take immediate action against any employee who ever engages in in appropriate activity with a student."

Crossland was an assistant football coach and assistant baseball coach at Killeen High School.
