Killeen police ID victim killed on Root Avenue

Killeen police have identified the man killed Monday evening in the 800 block of Root Avenue.

Officials said at 6:32 p.m., they received a call about multiple shots being fired.

When they arrived at the scene they found Otto Hernadez unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds.

Justice of the Peace Claudia Brown pronounced Hernandez dead at 7:53 p.m.

"Officers arrived and the victim was nonresponsive but they did notice the victim was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds," Killeen Police spokesperson Ofelia Miramontez said.

This is Killeen's second homicide investigation in 2018.

An autopsy has been ordered and will be performed at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.
