Killeen ISD students organize their own event, as part of national walkouts

There were more than 2,700 planned walkouts from coast-to-coast on Friday.

A group of Killeen ISD students held a moment of silence at the Ellison High School flag pole and then peacefully marched around the perimeter of the school, as part of nationwide student walkouts that marked the 19th anniversary of the deadly Columbine High School shooting.

Forty-five of Ellison's 2,492 students on campus Friday participated in the event, which began at 10 a.m. and ended when the bell rang at 10:35 a.m.

According to a district spokesperson, the small number of students did this on their own, and it was not part of any school or district-sanctioned event.
