Killeen ISD approves new elementary school designs

The Killeen Independent School District board approved the designs for two new elementary schools. Both projects will cost about $40 million. The new Clifton Park Elementary School will combine the student populations of the old Clifton Park and Bellaire elementary schools.

KILLEEN, Texas — The Killeen Independent School District board said in a press release it approved the designs for the new Pershing Park-Sugar Loaf Elementary School and the new Clifton Park Elementary School during a meeting Tuesday night.

The design for Pershing Park and Sugar Loaf elementary schools is estimated to cost $42 million, Killeen ISD Chief Communications Officer Terry Abbott said.

Clifton Park Elementary's new design will cost about $40 million, and will be located where Nolan Middle School's campus is, Abbott said. Nolan Middle School will close in 2020 when ISD middle school number 14 opens, the release said.

The new Clifton Park Elementary School has space for 1,050 students, so students from Bellaire Elementary School can attend it as well, the ISD said.

The project will be funded through the ISD's bond program and its strategic facilities plan, Abbott said.

Only four of seven board members were at the meeting, so the board postponed a vote on the design of the new and renovated Killeen High School until Jan. 8, the release said.

Abbott said the board also approved new courses for students, including a criminal investigation class at the ISD's career center, fashion marketing and entrepreneurship.
