Suspect in Temple homicide has been charged with murder

Cash Le'Anthony Hilliard, 17, has been charged with murder.

One of the people arrested in connection with a March 19 fatal shooting in Temple has been charged with murder.

According to a newly-released arrest affidavit, Cash Le'Anthony Hilliard, 17, admitted in a written statement to being in a van and trying to steal a gaming system from the victim: Savion Manuel.

The affidavit said Hilliard originally claimed a 16-year-old juvenile, who was also arrested, was the one who shot Manuel during the attempted aggravated robbery. But, based on the autopsy, an investigator said the gun was more likely fired from the back seat where Hilliard said he was sitting, according to the affidavit.

The 16-year-old was not identified because of his age, so no charge information was immediately available. An 18-year-old who Temple Police originally identified as a suspect was actually just a witness, according to the Bell County District Attorney's Office and the Temple Police Department. As of March 29, that 18-year-old witness was in custody on a misdemeanor motion to revoke probation concerning a burglary of a motor vehicle investigation, according to Bell County District Attorney Henry Garza.

"A subsequent investigation of the events that took place concerning the death of Savion Manuel showed that he was a witness to the events that occurred," Garza said in a statement.

Hilliard was charged with one count of murder and was being held Thursday on one million dollars bond.

Editor's Note: Following the arrests, both the Temple Police Department and the Bell County District Attorney's Office confirmed the 18-year-old was no longer considered a suspect but rather a witness. Because of this development, Channel 6 has decided to remove the name of the 18-year-old.
