Harker Heights Police asked for the public's help identifying a man who died early Saturday morning after being shot multiple times -- including once in the neck.
Officers responded to a report of shots fired around 2:38 a.m. When they arrived, police found the man lying in the middle of West Beeline Lane at the intersection of South Roy Reynolds Drive. The man was not breathing and had no pulse. Police and EMS tried CPR, but Bell County Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke pronounced him dead at 3:35 a.m.
Now, investigators are trying to figure out who the victim was. He was described as being a black man -- somewhere around 26 years old (plus or minus). He had short, cropped hair and multiple tattoos on both arms -- though police have not said what the tattoos depicted. The victim wore a multicolored Levi's tank top over a gray tank top, black jeans over black-and-white basketball shorts, and black Nike basketball shoes with black ankle socks.
Anyone who might know the victim was asked to call Harker Heights Police at 254-953-5400.
An autopsy was ordered, and detectives were investigating the case Saturday. As of early Saturday afternoon, no suspects had been named.
